The core of the TXOTX project is split into three research themes: (1) a synopsis of data available and methodologies applied in the collection, analysis, dissemination and management systems of the scientific advice in support to fisheries management in the concerned regions (WP 2); (2) review and collate specific information from different areas identifying areas of commonality, gaps and possible effort duplications (WP 3); and (3) a global synthesis of information identifying best practice, specific research topics and areas for future research to be implemented in current research programmes (WP 4).

RF(M)O and Advisory bodies worldwide (Source: FAO)
The basis for developing these themes will be through revision of the scientific advice in support to fisheries management in 3 contrasting Regional Studies:
(1) Tuna RFMOs;
(2) Third countries agreements in Africa and South America;
(3) International RFMOs.
The case study regions have been chosen to represent a wide range of different international fishery management types of key relevance to the EU, from the RFMOs to different Fishery Partnership Agreements. The wide range of regional case studies chosen should ensure that the results of the project will be relevant to most European fisheries.
