A diagram of the description of the consortium management and it’s relationship to the consortium is given in the Figure.

TXOTX Project structure

Within such structure, and apart form key scientist taking part in the study, special importance will be gained by the peer-review panel and observers of the project.

Peer-review panel

Various international recognized experts in fishery research will participate in the peer-review panel in order to quality assurance the results acquired through the work packages. This panel will attend the planned workshops to review the research and revisions carried out under different work packages. They will also participate in other meeting of the project, as required by the Project Coordination Committee, as well as they will help writing some of the area revisions.

Three international recognized experts have agreed to participate in the peer review panel of TXOTX:

  • Andre Punt (University of Washington, USA)
  • Andrew Rosenberg (University of New Hampsire, USA)
  • Alejandro Anganuzzi (IOTC, Seychelles)

However, there is considerable number of fishery scientist in the EU and internationally who are not members of the PRP. At the beginning of the project, opportunities will be created to involve some of these researchers in the Co-ordination Action.

Observers

Members of different organizations as RFMOs, FAO, other EU Projects (6-7 FP), Long Distance RAC, or other NGOs will be invited as observers to the workshops organized by the project to discuss the results and future recommendations arising from the different work packages. They will also participate in the peer-review process.

5 international/multinational bodies have agreed to join TXOTX as Observers:

  • International Committee for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT);
  • Nortwest Atlantic Fishery Organization (NAFO);
  • Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR);
  • South East Atlantic Fisheries Organization (SEAFO);
  • Benguela Current Commission (BCC).

Moreover, 4 EU projects coordinators from 6 European Research Framework Programme have agreed to collaborate with TXOTX as observers:

  • MARIFISH;
  • POORFISH - Probabilistic assessment, management, and advice model for fisheries management in the case of poor data availability;
  • ECOST - Ecosystems, Societies, Consilience, Precautionary principle: Development of an assessment method of the societal cost for best fishing practices and efficient public policies;
  • ISTAM - Improve Scientific and Technical Advices for Fisheries Management.

The role of Observers is to provide formal links between TXOTX coordination action and these bodies/projects; provide technical advice and input, and through representatives provide independent comment and assessment at selected workshops and meetings.
